'Hindemith's 'Echo' was written in 1942, and published in 1945. Its tempo indication is Rather Fast (quarter= 108-116). It is for flute and piano and was conceived with the purpose of providing worthwhile literature with intermediate performance difficulty. The piece is given interdisciplinary cultural interest when Hindemith attached to it a Romantic verse by the Irish poet, Thomas Moore (1779-1852).'
